The proportion of homeowning young adults is falling, with more living with their parents into their mid-30s. This is not good, and Labour are right to back the builders, not the blockers.
Every new house will be in someone’s backyard. It is easy to support more houses in general, harder to find locations for 370,000 houses a year. Every MP knows of anti-housing campaigns.
Those campaigns are never representative. They are coalitions of the willing - or, rather, of the unwilling, typically older, richer, well-housed owner-occupiers. They do not speak for the community.
